  • DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions seem to need a win over Green Bay to stop Matt Patricia’s first season from being a flop.

Week 5 may seem a little early for an NFL team to be desperate.

    Not in Detroit.

The Lions (1-3) were embarrassed in a 48-17 loss to the New York Jets Youth Byron Maxwell Jersey , who haven’t won since the opener and appear to be one of the league’s worst teams . The Lions did earn an impressive win over New England in Week 3, but the lone victory is sandwiched between comebacks that fell short at San Francisco and Dallas.

Detroit, which hasn’t won a division title since 1993, can get a boost of confidence and go into a bye week on a high if it can beat the Packers (2-1-1) for a third straight time.

“It would be huge because if you win this one, you get to enjoy this one for a little bit longer and you got a break to enjoy,” Detroit receiver Golden Tate said. “If you lose this, you’re thinking about it until you’re back on the field.

“Besides that, it’s a divisional game. I like to think it counts as two. A win for us and a loss for them, that’s a two-game swing in my mind.”

Unlike last year’s season sweep, though, the Lions will have to face two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. He was injured for the 2017 matchups.

“One of the best ways to get into the playoffs is to win your division games and this is our first opportunity,” Detroit safety Glover Quin said. “If we get a win here, we’ll have two wins just like Green Bay. Minnesota has one. Chicago has three wins, but no one is running away with it right now.”

Here are some things to watch for in Sunday’s game at Ford Field:

    RODGERS REAX

Green Bay’s superstar quarterback voiced his displeasure with the offensive production last week against Buffalo despite a 22-0 win and 400-plus yards of offense. Coach Mike McCarthy has chalked up the frustration to Rodgers’ competitiveness, adding he was also unhappy.

Rodgers has been playing through a left knee injury that appears to limit his mobility.

“When the adrenaline kicks in on game day Patrick DiMarco Jersey , I’ve felt a little better the last couple games,” he said.

Green Bay’s top three receivers are banged-up, leading to them miss practice time. Davante Adams has a calf injury. Randall Cobb missed the Bills game with a hamstring injury. Geronimo Allison has been in the concussion protocol.

    POSSIBLE PAY DAY

Tate is on pace to have the best season of his nine-year career with team highs in catches (28), yards receiving (389) and receiving touchdowns (three) through four games.

Entering the final year of his contract, Tate said his agent and the Lions are not discussing a new deal.

“I’m always down for talking, but they completely stopped,” the 30-year-old Tate said. “I’m just going to do my job. I still feel young, which is a major key.”

    ANOTHER AARON

Aaron Jones could be emerging from the Packers’ crowded backfield. A slasher with big-play potential, Jones is working his way back into the three-man running back rotation after being suspended the first two games. He’s averaging 6.3 yards per carry after averaging 5.5 yards last year as a rookie.

Jamaal Williams started the first four games and has stood out in pass protection. Ty Montgomery is a receiving threat out of the backfield. Jones has been third in the rotation, allowing the Packers to put perhaps their best runner into the game at a time when the defense isn’t as fresh.

    R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Detroit’s Darius Slay, who has an NFL-high nine interceptions since the start of 2017, has become one of the league’s best cornerbacks, as last season’s All-Pro recognition confirmed.

“He’s a premier corner,” Rodgers said. “And the thing I’ve always respected about him is he does star coverage. He plays on both sides of the field, he plays in the slot http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-sam-darnold-jersey , and not many corners do that.”

In 2015 after the Lions won in Green Bay, Slay said Rodgers foresaw the recognition that was coming.

“You’re underrated,” Slay recalled Rodgers saying to him. “You’re one of the top guys. Keep playing and you’ll get (notoriety).”

    PRESSURE PACKAGE

The Packers’ defense finally put together a four-quarter performance in the shutout of the Bills after three roller- coaster weeks of alternating one good half with one choppy half. Granted, they had seven sacks and forced three turnovers against a rookie quarterback in Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

Kirk Cousins was perfect in his cameo, and then kicked back and watched two former Broncos quarterbacks tear apart their old teammates.

Cousins completed all four of his passes in the Vikings' 42-28 exhibition victory Saturday night, including a 1-yard touchdown strike on a quick slant to Stefon Diggs .

"I think it was a smooth first drive but it is a small sample size and the next couple of weeks will be a good test for us," Cousins said.

Diggs called it a good first step.

"He's a good quarterback," Diggs said. "He makes some great throws."

Case Keenum wasn't nearly as sharp in his Denver debut, completing just 1 of 4 passes for 5 yards spanning two drives.

"It's just frustrating not playing well and you don't have a chance to bounce back from it," Keenum said.

Cousins was the crown jewel of this year's free-agent class of quarterbacks, signing an $84 million, three-year deal in Minneapolis. That meant Keenum was out two months after leading the Vikings to the NFC championship, and he signed a $36 million, two-year deal with Denver.

The Broncos then traded their starter, Trevor Siemian Jarrad Davis Jersey , to the Vikings to serve as Cousins' backup 鈥?so long as he beats out Kyle Sloter, another former Denver QB.

That left Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly vying for No. 2 duty in Denver.

So, this preseason opener was filled with quarterback intrigue.

After Cousins' single series 鈥?one in which he didn't have to face Von Miller 鈥?Siemian led Minnesota on three scoring drives, most notably a screen pass to Roc Thomas that beat the blitz for a 78-yard score .

Siemian was 11 of 17 for 165 yards, two TDs and an interception against his old team.

"It was a little weird for sure, but good to see old buddies," Siemian said.

Lynch, the former first-rounder twice beaten out by Siemian in Denver, was just 6 of 11 for 24 yards and an interception.

    "Obviously I'm upset," he said.

Despite 17 yards passing overall in the first half, the Broncos only trailed 24-14 at halftime thanks to Isaiah McKenzie's 78-yard punt return for a TD and rookie Royce Freeman's 23-yard TD scamper 鈥?Denver's only first down before halftime.

Just when the crowd was starting to lament losing Siemian and Sloter, in came Kelly to fire up the crowd.

Kelly threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to tight end Matt LaCosse. Amid chants of "Kelly! Kelly!" he also drove Denver 85 yards in 11 plays, capping the drive with a 19-yard strike to running back Phillip Lindsay to put the Broncos on top 28-27 with 10 minutes remaining.

Sloter, who was cut by Denver a year ago, responded by throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to Chad Beebe with six minutes left to put the Vikings back on top. His strike to Jeff Badet for the 2-point conversion made it 35-28.

Safety Jack Tocho picked off Kelly at the Denver 30-yard line with 5:23 left Authentic Customized Vikings Jerseys , and Sloter sealed it with a 14-yard bootleg for the score.

Sloter was 9 of 11 for 69 yards and Kelly was 14 of 20 for 176.

Lynch might be losing in his battle to be the backup, but he insisted he's "excited for Chad."

"Chad's been playing really well and he deserves that," Lynch said. "He's a good kid."

Broncos coach Vance Joseph wasn't quite ready to elevate Kelly to No. 2 QB, saying he had to study the film.

"Obviously, Case is the starter, so that's my main concern," Joseph said. "Chad has played well. He played well tonight, outside of the one interception, which led to a score for those guys. He's a guy that plays with a lot of confidence. That's a good deal."

    MCKENZIE MAGIC

Joseph's faith in McKenzie finally paid off with his punt return for a score.

"Huge for him," said Joseph, who stuck with McKenzie last year despite a half-dozen fumbles. "He's obviously a talent. His issue last year wasn't talent. It was more decision-making. We're helping him fix that so he can help us win games."

    NATIONAL ANTHEM

Linebacker Brandon Marshall and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas weren't with their teammates on the sideline for the national anthem. They emerged from the tunnel behind the Broncos' bench after the anthem was over.

"We didn't know about that," Joseph said. "But it's their right."

    INJURIES

Broncos S Jamal Carter (hamstring), CB Marcus Rios (hip) and TE Austin Traylor (right shoulder) got hurt.
